Weaves- We had a 12 poles weave at practice last week. The first few times Kiltie exited at the 10th pole. There was a jump that she was looking at when she hit the 10th pole. So I've got our weaves back out in the back yard and we're adding more distractions near the end of the weave. I'll click every time she goes between the 11th and 12th pole.
Contacts - the bain of my life! I started contact training 4 weeks ago. I read an article from Cleanrun and thought I'd give 4 on the floor a go. I'm using a hoop and a small plastic target, theory being that she'll driver through the hoop and go down an touch the target just after the hoop. This was all working fine on the flat with no training plank. But, the moment I put a training plank on a low angle, she started jumping off on one side and driving towards the hoop, so a placed a gate against the sides of the plank to discourage this. Then she started jumping off early and landed under the hoop in a down position, touching the target with her nose... So I placed pole over the gates to stop this. That worked fine, but I hate using props like this to help her understand the behaviour.. now she spins around the target to look at me, so her postion will change depending on where I am. After 2 weeks of training with a low plank, she doesn't appear to associate the plank with the behaviour at all. So I've modifed my criteria, I'm now going for 2 on 2 off, touching the target in a down position. I'm hoping adding 2 rear feet touching the plank into the behaviour will make her more aware of the plank.
Anyone out had similar problems? How did you fix it?
