Playing Too much speed, dog burning up on entry!

Someone asked if I had any video of the weave poles from round 2 of the Grand Prix Regional hosted by the Bay Team. So I put this video together.

A lot of big dogs had a tremendous amount of speed as they approached the weave poles, causing many missed entries. You can find the course map here.

Wouldn't it just be a matter of training the weave entrance?  You need to work on speed and accuracy from as many angles as possible, right?

Agreed, the handlers need to learn how to handle a weave entrance! ;-)

Playing the video multiple times, one thing that was clear to me was that the handlers who supported the pole entrances by moving toward the poles and then making a definite turn with their bodies (view the 3rd and 4th handlers in the sequence) got the entrance. 

The handlers that hung back and didn't support the entrances didn't get it.  Handlers that missed the entrance appear to be sending the dogs, and hoping they'd find the entrances on their own.  The handlers that hung back "peeled" off to the left, and the dogs couldn't find the entrance. 

I feel their pain, I've done that more times than I care to remember.....
