4OTF
Nice!
I'm doing this method with my pup as well.
I just took some video last night, I might upload it this weekend.
Mine isn't that good at a distance, though; how did you do that?
(of course she's just a pup and hasn't been doing it long but I want to train more distance eventually, obviously!!)
4-off versus 4OTF?
If you're doing 4OTF am I right to assume it'll be using hoops the way Ann Croft and others teach in the States? Look forward to seeing your video.
I've taught the 4-off contact position using clicker and target - but NO hoops. And the distance has been gained through selecting for independence of handler position using the clicker/target, and also other work to give the dog confidence to work at a distance. There's an outline of the method on my site.
Re: 4-off versus 4OTF?
No, I'm not using any hoops. In fact I put hoops on the ground one day and it started the pants off of her
She didn't know what to make of the hoops so she slowed to a crawl...NOT what I want!
I started teaching her very early on to lie down on a bath mat anytime a paw touched the bath mat. Then I added distance and she'll go out laterally from me a good distance to find the bathmat and lie down on it. I then added the bathmat to the end of the contact. Soon I had faded the bathmat and she lies down at the end of the contact 100% of the time. Has never missed one.
I can't get my videos to upload to this site today, so here is a link to where I host them on my webpage: http://www.lockeyejosefin.com/Videos.htm.
I do realize I am always on one side in the videos...that's because I don't want to be in the way! I do continue running on and flailing my arms around, though that is, luckily, off camera. She does not budge until released. Good girlie :)
To teach her to stride all the way to the end of the contact I implemented a clicker board for a short time. Now I periodically put it in to be sure she is hitting where I want her to hit. Generally she is :)
Re: 4-off versus 4OTF?
Look forward to seeing your video when it's on here (at 5 Mb on your site, it's a bit big to view on dialup). Can you tell me more about your experiences of the clicker board? Its not something that's used much (if at all) here in the UK as far as I know. Do you also use a normal clicker?
