Howdy, all. I figured since I'm given a blog on this here site, I may as well put it to good use!
The name's Katherine, but everyone calls me Cat. I'm a junior handler living in Massachusetts and I currently am owned by one dog, an English Springer Spaniel named Tessie. She's my first dog and has been such an amazing learning experience. Together, we do agility, obedience, and showmanship, and we soon hope to branch out into freestyle. My high school has a Canine Science program, and this is my major. I hope to train dogs full time.
I compete in only USDAA at the moment, and go to any trial within a 2-hour drive of my hometown. I'd branch out farther, but I can understand my parents not wanting to do that much driving. I am considering branching out into AKC, CPE, and/or NADAC, as there are a lot of trials available to me in the area. I'm hoping to also get at least a CD on her... she's not a big fan of obedience, but through clicker training, it's slowly becoming more fun for her. She loves showmanship, so I can't wait to do some more Junior Handling with her -- we've done a couple of matches already.
Right now, Tessie has her TT(Temperment Tested, passed with a 96/100), CGC, and Beginner JH certificate. She passed her TDI test, but the paperwork was lost and therefore she could not be 'registered'. We will be retaking this test in a month's time.
I plan to use this blog to document my training progress and post ideas I've come up with. Feel free to leave me suggestions, ask me questions, tell me what a dork I am, correct me, etc. I'm always up for different schools of thought.
