To continue my series on camcorders, video, and editing. This time I talk about video editing software, and in particular the free editing program Avid Free DV. It is a scaled down version of Avid Xpress Pro which retails for $1700. Obviously very scaled down. But we are not making a big time movie. 

Once you get your video into the computer, you usually want to edit it and maybe add some effects. Or at least a title. Of course all Windows computers come with Movie Maker, and in truth I've never used it. But I can only assume it is pretty limited.

Avid makes the editing software used to make most of the movies and TV shows these days. It is pretty high end stuff. The free software can handle two streams of real time effects, which is more than you will probably ever need.
